Monthly Update – May

As I suspected, May turned out to be a difficult month.  From the start of the month my expenses were higher.  I had a car repair which I expected but nonetheless, still hurt.  But unfortunately that was only one of many large non-regular expenses for the month.

For Mother’s Day we hosted a brunch for 10 at our house with both of our moms, our siblings and their spouses, and one cousin who was visiting from out of town.  Thankfully brunch is less expensive than hosting a dinner but I still spent over $100 on food.  Add in the cost of gifts and cards and Continue reading “Monthly Update – May”

Frugal and Fitness Freak

OK, well freak might be a strong word but in addition to being increasingly frugal, I am also a fitness nut.  Yes, I actually enjoy exercising most days and I love the results of being fit and in shape.  Although I have always been active, last year my fitness activity increased and I am in the best shape of my life (in my mid-30’s none the less).

My White Mountain Adventure

I had a little adventure this weekend at the White Mountains in New Hampshire.  As Mr. SFF was on a different trip down in Austin I was travelling solo.  Unlike trips in the past, I was very conscious of how much I was spending because every dollar saved was potentially a dollar that could go towards my financial independence.  After work on Thursday I drove to NH to spend the first night in a hostel in Conway, NH.  I was meeting an old high school friend who had chosen the hostel for us and a couple of her other friends.  It has been probably more than a decade since I last stayed in a hostel but I was glad she chose this place as I only paid Continue reading “My White Mountain Adventure”
