Let me start by saying that I love Pinterest. Yup, I probably spend a little too much time on Pinterest browsing and getting grand ideas. The site though is great when you have an idea but you just don’t know the perfect solution…yet.
A couple of weeks ago I used up my last Swiffer cloth. I recycled the plastic tub and vowed to never spend money again on these disposable cloths as there must be a DIY and more cost efficient solution. So off to Pinterest I went. I found a few different ideas but I found one pin/blog post about using microfiber cloths. I picked some up last night, a package for 2 for a whopping $1.99, and then got to work this morning. I say get to work loosely as this was SO simple!
I placed the Swiffer on the cloth and then decided I could get two full cloths with some to spare. I might actually be able to add some extra fabric to the sides of the extra strip to get another cloth out of if but I think 4 out of the $1.99 package will be just enough.
Then it was back to Pinterest to find a good DIY cleaning solution, something that was eco-friendly and cheap. I used a few different sites for inspiration but decided that I wanted something that was vinegar based. I rounded up some supplies and measured things out. Here is the recipe I ended up using:
4 cups water
1 Tablespoon vinegar
2 T Castile soap
8 drops citrus essential oil
I measured up the ingredients into an empty bottle, quickly shook the bottle to mix it up, then I was ready to go. I squirted some out onto my new cloth so that I was damp but not soaked and then I was ready to go!
The end result worked pretty well. I squirted a little more solution on the cloth a couple of times and was able to quickly clean my floors.
