Hello world! After spending many months logging my journey towards financial independence in a private setting I have finally made my blog public. This blog has been a great tool to help me keep motivated to keep cutting costs and adding money to our savings but I thought it was finally time to share my story with the rest of the world. Although everyone’s life situation is different, my hope is that I can inspire others to go after their dreams, no matter where they currently stand. I do not make a ton of money so I am hoping to show others that you do not need to be making six figures to pay off debts, save towards financial independence or work toward whatever financial goal you may have. You just need a goal, the drive, and discipline to make changes to get you there.
I did need to take some additional steps before making my blog public. Thankfully Mr. SFF is a computer specialist so he helped me through all of the steps.
First, I had to actually purchase the www.simplyfinanciallyfree.com domain. I decided to purchase this separate from wordpress to ensure that I had control. I went through name.com and even found a coupon to add whois privacy for free. I didn’t even know that you could look the personal details on domains so I am glad that I was able to add this privacy feature for free.
Step two was finding a hosting company. I went through Champlainhost as they have reasonable pricing and the process was pretty simple. If you are looking for a hosting site, check them out!
The next step, moving things over from WordPress.com to my now self hosted site, was a little tricky but after some finagling (and maybe a little swearing) Mr. SFF was able to get all my previous posts and images moved over. If I had started writing my blog through the self-hosting process from this start this probably all would have been much easier. I am so thankful and lucky to have a husband who is not only supportive but great with the technical side of things.
Total cost to get my blog live for public viewing pleasure: $78.19.
The reason I went with self-hosting is so that I can have much more flexibility with my design, layout and features. Now I am just making some final little changes to the feel and layout of the blog. More changes may come but I am looking forward to sharing my story with you!
